COUNTIF Function.
The Microsoft Excel COUNTIF Function helps you to Counts the Number of Cells within a range when that meet the given criteria in a formula.
(ii) If the Criteria is a text or logical or mathematical symbols that must be enclosed with double quote marks (").
If the criteria are numeric value double quote marks are not required in a formula. |
Syntax : -
COUNTIF(range, criteria) The COUNTIF function syntax has the following arguments:- Range : - Is the range of one or more cells to be count, including numbers, names, arrays or references that contain numbers. Criteria : - Is the criteria which can be form of a number, expression, cell reference or text that defines which cells will be counted in a formula. Criteria can be expressed as [e.g. 3, "2", ">2", "Apples IPod " or A4] Remarks : - (i) If a cells is Blank or contain text values then the value are ignored in formula. Click To Download File |
COUNTIFS Function.
The Microsoft Excel COUNTIFS has the ability to count number of cells when it meets multiple criteria in a range or database.
Syntax : -
COUNTIFS(criteria_range1, criteria1, [criteria_range2, criteria2]…) The COUNTIFS function syntax has the following arguments : - criteria_range1 : - Is the first range of cells which to be evaluate the associated criteria in the formula. criteria1 : - Is the criteria which help to evaluate the formula, It can be form of a number, expression, cell reference or text that define which cells will be counted in the formula. [Criteria can be expressed as 2, ">2", B4, "Mac", or "2"] |
criteria_range2, criteria2... : - Are optional or additional ranges and their associated criteria. You can put up to 127 range/criteria pairs in the formula.
Remarks :-
If the criteria argument is reference to an empty cell then, the COUNTIFS function will treats the empty cell as a “0” value in formula.
You can use the wildcard characters : - The question mark (?) & asterisk (*) in a criteria. A question mark matches any single character, & an asterisk that matches any sequence of characters in the formula. Click To Download File
